PREMIERE: Drunken Hearts – ‘Beat Up, Beat Down, and Broken’

Our friends in Drunken Hearts share their heartfelt new video for “Beat Up, Beat Down, and Broken” (Wildflower Sessions) with Backline as an exclusive premiere today ahead of its official release! The song was written as a tribute to a dear friend who passed away.

Andrew McConathy on “Beat Up, Beat Down, and Broken”:

“I wrote ‘Beat Up, Beat Down, and Broken’ as a tribute to my best friend who passed away unexpectedly last summer, just hours after we shared a cup of coffee. We held a service for him in a snowstorm on top of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, followed by an ash scattering ceremony in the middle of the Pacific Ocean in California. During the ash scattering ceremony, a preacher I had never met spoke, and his words struck something inside of me. ‘We are all broken,’ he said, ‘but we all still shine.’ I wrote the song the day I got home. I hope it serves as a reminder that we are all human and we all struggle. It’s ok to ask for help, and it’s ok to admit that we aren’t ok! There is a stigma attached to seeking mental health resources, and it’s time to change that.”
