Providing Mental Health Resources to the NYC Nightlife Community
We’re teaming up with NYC Mayor’s Office of Community Mental Health and Office of Nightlife to connect the New York City nightlife community with mental health resources and services through the new ELEVATE Nightlife Mental Health Initiative.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, people who work in the nightlife industry have kept the city running, while facing significant emotional and physical demands of their own: many became unemployed, risked exposure to illness, and became isolated from their communities. The uncertainty and anxiety associated with COVID-19 has created a collective trauma in the industry. Now, people who work in the industry are charged with bringing back the city’s thriving nightlife, but they may bring with them lingering and new mental health concerns.
As venues and live event spaces start to open back up, it’s important that staff return to work with a prioritization of mental health, commitment to wellness, and a strong sense of community support. Take a look at Backline’s services below, and connect with the resources you need to thrive.
NYC Nightlife Support Groups
Starting July 19th, Backline will host weekly support groups on Mondays from 4-5 PM EST. Led by licensed therapist Claudia Mussen, LCSW, the virtual Zoom meeting will serve as a safe space for nightlife workers to come together, share their experiences, and talk about what it means to work in the industry today.
